Ibrox View: Bowyer update on reported Rangers target Taylor should increase hope of summer swoop
Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer may have hinted at a significant transfer boost for Rangers this morning.
The Addicks boss revealed in an interview with Jim White on talkSPORT that three of his first team squad are refusing to come back and complete the Championship season for his side – and Lyle Taylor is among them.
TEAMtalk report that the 30-year-old is a summer transfer target for the Gers after hitting 11 goals in 22 Championship outings this term.
And Bowyer admitted that his star man has outlined his intention to sit out the rest of the season because he is worried any potential injury could prevent him from securing a “life-changing” transfer this summer.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Unfortunately for us, three of our players have said that they’re not going to play. Lyle is one of them.
“That’s tough for us. That’s tough for me as the manager. Lyle is a big player for us. When he plays we win games.
“He’s said he’s not going to play because of risk of injury. He wants to play, but he’s so worried about getting injured, he’s saying he wouldn’t be the same player.
“He’s going to get a life-changing move.”
Admittedly, the Gers aren’t the only team in the hunt for Taylor this summer.
TEAMtalk also mention Burnley, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Stoke City, Preston North End, and Middlesbrough as potential destinations.
But the fact that his manager is openly stating that he will be on the move in the near future must give Rangers some hope of landing him.
Their interest appears to be long-standing too.
As far back as December the Gers were being linked with a potential swoop by Sky Sports News.
There have been serious doubts over the likelihood of Taylor signing a new deal at The Valley since the end of last year, but this latest update from Bowyer all but confirms his exit.
Could the “life-changing” transfer he references be a move up to Ibrox this summer?
At the moment, the Gers will be hopeful that they have just as much chance as anybody else.
