Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce calls for more consistency from Rangers duo Kent and Hagi next season
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has called for more consistency from Rangers pair Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi next season.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the duo could be integral to the Gers’ title hopes next term, but needed to show their quality on a much more regular basis.
The Glaswegian giants made a permanent move for Hagi last week following his loan spell during the second half of the campaign.
The Gers struck a similar deal for Kent last summer, but Bruce believes that both players must elevate their levels of output to help Steven Gerrard’s men push Celtic all the way in the title race next season.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “They both need to be more consistent and put in more game-winning performances.
“Ultimately, that’s the difference between Rangers and Celtic – the consistency of the performances from players like that. We’ve seen what they’re capable of in certain games for Rangers when they turn it on.
“We know what they can do, but it’s doing it on a consistent basis. I think that’s the main obstacle, and not losing it in the lesser games like they did towards the back end of the season.
“That’s what Steven will be hoping for, and if he can get Hagi and Kent performing on a regular basis, they’ll have a chance of competing with Celtic because we know what level they can get to on a certain day.”
Hagi struck three goals and two assists in 10 outings for the Gers after joining from Genk in January.
Kent contributed eight goals and four assists in 33 appearances across all competitions this term, but struggled to recapture the form that saw him win the Scottish PFA’s Young Player of the Year award in his first season at Ibrox.
