Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce claims permanent Kamberi deal could be good move for Rangers

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has suggested that making a permanent move for Florian Kamberi could be a good piece of business for Rangers this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender claimed that the 25-year-old could offer vital cover for the Gers next term, as well as acting as a replacement for the potentially exit-bound Greg Stewart.

Kamberi arrived at Ibrox on loan from Hibernian in January, registering one goal and two assists in nine outings for the Gers, and is said to be keen on converting his temporary stint into a permanent one, as per Football Insider.

That news comes alongside a report from the same outlet that Ibrox chiefs are willing to listen to offers for Stewart in the coming months, and Bruce believes that Kamberi could be the ideal man to fill the space his departure would leave.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “He [Kamberi] is a steady eddy Scottish Premiership player, certainly not a bad one to have in your squad.

“He’s done alright whenever I’ve seen him play, and when he got his chance for Rangers towards the end of the season, he chipped in with a couple of important goals and assists.

“He could be one that Steven looks to have in the squad just in case anything happens to the likes of Jermain Defoe or Alfredo Morelos. He’s not a bad one to call upon at all.

“There’s the chance that the could lose Greg Stewart as well, so if they do then it might be a good move for the club.”

Kamberi has hit 31 goals and 15 assists in 91 games since arriving in Scotland back in 2018.

As for Stewart, he has endured a torrid season at Ibrox since signing last summer, starting just three of his 16 Premiership outings for the Gers.
