Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce praises Rangers for wrapping up permanent Hagi deal

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that signing Ianis Hagi on a permanent deal will give Rangers a lift this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that Ibrox chiefs had done well to wrap up the transfer early on, and argued that it will represent a significant boost to manager Steven Gerrard.

The Gers completed a £3 million deal for the player earlier this week following a successful loan spell over the second half of this season.

RangersAnd Bruce believes that kind of fee is a necessary expenditure to ensure that Gerrard’s men can challenge for the Scottish Premiership title next term.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “He did well in the games I’ve seen him play, he did really well.

“I’m sure Steven will be happy he’s got him on board. He spoke highly of him after a lot of the games that we have seen him play.

“It’s good that they’ve done the early piece of business, and it will give the squad and the boss a lift.

“£3 million in today’s market isn’t a lot of money if they want to start competing with the likes of Celtic, and if they want to be in competition in the market with sides from down south.”

Hagi joined the Gers from Belgian outfit Genk in January, and went on to score three goals and provide a further two assists over the course of 10 appearances in Scotland.

Prior to this week’s announcement, there had been some doubts over whether a deal would be completed after sporting director Ross Wilson raised concerns over the potential financial impact of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
