Dorin Goian ‘confident’ that Ianis Hagi can help Rangers to prevent Celtic 10-in-a-row

Former Rangers defender Dorian Goian has claimed that he is “confident” Ianis Hagi can help Rangers prevent Celtic from winning 10-in-a-row next season.

The Gers wrapped up a permanent deal for the Romanian earlier in the week following a successful loan spell at Ibrox from Belgian outfit Genk over the second half of this season.

And Goian, who spent two years on the books in Glasgow between 2011 and 2013, has argued that his young compatriot can be a real asset for Steven Gerrard’s men.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, he said: “I’m confident Ianis Hagi can help Rangers stop Celtic winning their tenth title.

“I’m sure Rangers believe this too, otherwise they wouldn’t have signed him.

“They believe in Hagi and Rangers have trust in his qualities. It doesn’t matter that Celtic have won the last nine league titles.

“It depends on him, but Scottish football needs a player like Ianis Hagi. He’s a special kind of player, someone who at any time can decide a game with one moment of magic.”

Is Goian right about Hagi?

Let’s hope so.

We’ve already seen flashes of what the Romanian can do during his loan spell at Ibrox, and if he can produce that kind of dazzling form on a regular basis, he could be a fantastic signing for the Gers.

Perhaps the best example of his enormous potential came in that stunning 3-2 Europa League win against SC Braga at Ibrox back in February.

Hagi scored twice that night, as well as registering a 100% shot accuracy rate, and a dribble success rate of 56%, as per Wyscout.

As a point of reference, Ryan Kent’s dribbles success rate this season is 1.5% lower, and his shot accuracy was just 35.5%.

Scoring twice every game obviously isn’t a realistic target, but even if he can get to a point where he’s reaching doubles figures for the season, that would be a massive boost for Steven Gerrard’s men.
