Charlie Adam argues Morelos must stay and repay Rangers faith this summer
Charlie Adam has claimed that it is time for Alfredo Morelos to repay the faith that Rangers have shown him since arriving in Glasgow by staying at Ibrox this summer.
The 23-year-old has been at the centre of speculation linking him with a potential exit for some time now, with Colombian outlet Antena 2 suggesting Atletico Madrid and St. Etienne are keen to snap him up this summer.
But ex-Gers midfielder Adam has argued that the 23-year-old owes it to the club to stay put and do his bit to help prevent Celtic from winning a 10th consecutive league title.
Speaking to the Daily Record, he said: “Every time someone has come in they [Rangers] have gone bang with a new contract, they’ve paid him, they’ve looked after him.
“I just think he needs to get his head right, settle down and go and produce the goods and go and score 30 goals and get Rangers to the top of the league, win the league.
“He’s still young enough, he’s still got plenty of years ahead of him to go and be that player that goes to the English Premier League if he can.
“I think Rangers have done everything and I think it’s time he pays back or rewards Rangers for the time and effort Rangers have put in by leading by example next season.”
Should Morelos stay at Rangers this summer?
Yes, absolutely.
So far, the Colombian’s 2020 has been very poor, there’s no getting away from that fact.
With just one goal since the winter break, his form has been dire, but we all know how lethal he can be on his day.
Football Insider reported last month that the Gers would have to slash their initial £25 million asking price for the South American, and when you look at the potential cost it would take to bring in a player who is capable of filling the goalscoring void that he would leave, you have to wonder whether selling him for anything less than that would be worth it.
We’re inclined to argue it wouldn’t.
If Morelos can recapture the form that saw him score 28 goals in all competitions before January this season, he can still be the most lethal weapon in Gerrard’s arsenal as the Gers look to finally bring the league title back to Ibrox.
