Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce claims Ojo must improve consistency levels after poor Rangers loan
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that Sheyi Ojo must improve his consistency levels if he is to make a success of himself after leaving Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the 22-year-old has “huge potential” but needs to do more at his next club, wherever that may be.
The Liverpool loanee is set to leave Glasgow and return to his parent club after the Scottish season was brought to an early conclusion because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, and took to social media on Thursday to describe Gers supporters as the “best fans in the word”.
Largely, however, Ojo has struggled to make a positive impact at Ibrox, and has started just one league match since the end of October.
And Bruce has argued that Rangers’ willingness to allow him to return to Anfield is a direct reflection on his poor form this term.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “He’s been at a few clubs now. He’s got ability, he’s got good pace, he’s got some great attributes.
“But the consistency desperately needs to improve. The fact that Rangers aren’t going to try and sign him permanently tells you that he hasn’t done that well at Ibrox.
“I don’t know what the next chapter in his career is going to be, but it’s important that he sorts his consistency levels out and starts showing us the talent he’s got on a regular basis.
“It’s undoubted that he’s got huge potential and good attributes, but he has to do more.”
Ojo started the season brightly in Glasgow, but hasn’t scored a goal in any competition for the Gers since mid-September.
Overall, he registered five strikes and seven assist across 36 matches in a campaign that has largely petered out as it has progressed.
