Barry Ferguson claims nephew Lewis would be ‘very good signing’ for Rangers

Barry Ferguson has claimed that his nephew, Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson, would be a “very good signing” for Rangers this summer.

The ex-Ibrox hero also revealed that his son is in constant contact with the 20-year-old Pittodrie talent, but as yet, the Gers have not made an approach for him.

The Scottish Sun reported recently that Steven Gerrard is keen to make a move for Ferguson in the coming months.

And his uncle is very much in favour of the idea.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, he said: “Every day my son speaks to Lewis on WhatsApp and he says there has been no contact from Rangers.

“But I think he would be a very good signing for them. He has still got a bit to go in terms of reaching the top level, but he has all the attributes.

“Lewis had a great first season last year, and they [Aberdeen] signed him up on a four-year deal to get top money for him.

“Whoever buys Lewis now will have to pay top dollar.”

Would Ferguson be a good signing for the Gers?

There have certainly been promising signs from the youngster, yes.

Ferguson has already been labelled a “real leader” by pundit Mark Wilson, while ex-Ibrox midfielder Alex Rae has spoken out on more than one occasion about his belief that the Gers should make a move for the 20-year-old this summer.

Statistically, he is impressive too.

Over the course of the 2019/20 season, Ferguson averaged 3.28 dribbles per match, as well as winning 23.93 duels, and making 4.15 interceptions, as per Wyscout.

As a point of reference, Glen Kamara‘s equivalent stats in those areas were  2.48, 17.25, and 3.88 respectively this season.

Of course, Ferguson still has some way to go before he is the finished article, but he is still only 20, and his potential is huge.

And if the Gers could snap him up his summer, it could be a coup that repays them for years to come.
