Steven Gerrard pushing for Rangers reunion with Liverpool 22-year-old – report

Steven Gerrard is pushing for a reunion at Rangers with Liverpool midfielder Pedro Chirivella, according to the Transfer Window podcast.

According to the report, the Spanish youngster is available on a free transfer in the summer as it stands and Gerrard is keen to explore that.

Chirivella has impressed during his time on the pitch this season, largely in the FA Cup, especially in the wins over Everton and Arsenal.

Rangers would be required to pay a small development fee if the move is completed, similar to the one they paid Charlton for Joe Aribo in the summer.

Gerrard worked with the 22-year-old during his time with the Liverpool academy and knows the quality he possesses in holding midfield.

Obviously, there is uncertainty around transfers and contracts with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but this will certainly be one to watch once the wheels start turning again.

The three main options available to Gerrard in holding midfield are Steven Davis, Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara.

With Davis knocking on and strong interest in Kamara from a number of Premier League clubs, Chirivella could definitely come in and add serious competition.

Defensively, Davis has been rock solid making 2.9 tackles per game, easily the highest in the squad but there will be question marks surrounding his ability to play over 40 games in a season [WhoScored].

Chirivella would be a smart addition, and knowing Gerrard’s background with the Spaniard, it could give him a headstart on a different signing.
