Ibrox View: Rangers fans will disagree with BT pundit’s negative words on Gerrard

BT Sports pundit Stephen Craigan has claimed that Steven Gerrard won’t make it to his third-year anniversary at Rangers if he can’t win a piece of silverware.

Craigan claimed that despite some good performances, Gerrard’s performance in charge has been no different from that of Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha.

We would have to disagree, with great progress being made by the Light Blues in the space of the last couple of years.

Craigan suggested that if Gerrard can’t win silverware in the next year, he could find himself going through the exit door at Ibrox.

“In the week when all eyes were focused on Rangers and the SPFL, what slipped past relatively quietly was manager Steven Gerrard celebrating his second anniversary in charge at Ibrox,” he told The Sun.

“The two full-time incumbents before Gerrard, Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha, also failed to deliver a major trophy and were shown the door. So, why is Gerrard being treated differently?

“Gerrard will be aware that if he can’t get the trophy cabinet stocked up again then a third anniversary will be unlikely.”

We would have to disagree with Craigan’s comments, with Rangers knowing that they started a project when they appointed Gerrard two years ago.

There is no way that he can be compared to the likes of Warburton and Caixinha either, with the progression on the pitch second-to-none.

Without this recent blip, the Gers could easily have won the SPFL title. Let’s not forget that in the Scottish Cup final, with better composure, Rangers would have swept aside Celtic quite easily – it shows great progression.
