Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce backs Gerrard to stay with Rangers next season

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that he believes Steven Gerrard will be willing to stay at Rangers for another season.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the ex-Liverpool man has never been the sort of person to shy away from a challenge, and argued that he “deserves” to lift a Premiership title with the Gers.

In recent weeks, Kris Boyd and The Sun journalist Alan Nixon have both claimed that Gerrard could leave the club in the relatively near future.

For his part, Gerrard himself told talkSPORT last week that he is “hungry” to continue his work in Glasgow.

And Bruce is inclined to believe him.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “I think he’ll want to [stay at Rangers].

“I think Steven has always been one of those who has a steely way about him. He’s always been quiet with the way he goes about his business, he was like that as a player, but he was always really determined to do the best he can.

“He’s never been one to shirk a challenge so it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s there for another season and if he tries to take things one step further and win the league.

“I think Steven Gerrard, what he’s given the game, he deserves to win a title with Rangers.”

Bruce has previously told Ibrox News that the Gers would struggle to attract a better manager than Gerrard, as well as claiming that he deserves more time to prove himself in the dugout in Glasgow.

The 39-year-old has yet to lift any silverware with Rangers, but was unfortunate to see his side beaten by Celtic in this season’s Scottish League Cup final back in December.

In other Rangers news, Gers could play one-off Europa League qualifiers under new UEFA plans.
