Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce urges Rangers and SPFL to end dispute for good of Scottish football

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has urged Rangers and the SPFL to put their ongoing war of words to bed as soon as possible for the good of Scottish football.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender claimed that the dispute threatens to make a “laughing stock” of the professional game north of the border.

Rangers released their long-awaited dossier of evidence against the governing body on Thursday, but were met with scorn from SPFL chiefs, who argued that it showed “no shred of evidence” against them.

In response, the Gers claimed that they will not be “bullied into silence“, and doubled down on their calls for an independent inquiry into the SPFL’s handling of last month’s vote to end lower league seasons across the country.

But Bruce believes that there needs to be a greater effort made to find some kind of solution to the row.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “I think it needs to be put to bed because it’s making the place a laughing stock.

“I think they need to sort the situation out, whoever’s been in the wrong has to hold their hands up, do it properly, put it to bed, and try and get on the same page, pulling in the right direction. Ultimately, it’s not putting Scottish football in a good light.

“They [Ibrox chiefs] obviously feel that they have an argument because they wouldn’t be risking putting the name of Rangers against a thing like this. The fact that they’re going against a governing body, the fact that they’ve taken it this far and made it this public, they obviously feel that they’ve got a bloody good case.

“I just think for the good of the Scottish game it needs to be sorted out quickly.”

All 42 SPFL member clubs are set for a historic EGM on May 12th to decide whether or not an independent investigation will be brought forth.

The SPFL have already carried out their own inquiry into the debacle, commissioning auditors Deloitte to examine allegations of voting malpractice, but the Gers were not satisfied with the scope or depth of the subsequent findings.

In other Rangers news, Ex-SPL chief Roger Mitchell claims Gers are in ‘dire financial straits’.
