Borna Barisic claims he is ‘very satisfied’ at Rangers

Borna Barisic has insisted that he is “very satisfied” at Rangers and believes he can continue to progress his career at Ibrox.

The Croatian left-back emerged as a target for Serie A giants Roma back in January, with Steven Gerrard even going as far as to confirm their interest in the 27-year-old.

But the defender remained in Glasgow, and ended up signing a new four-year contract extension immediately after the transfer window closed.

And Barisic has reiterated just how content he is at Ibrox.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said: “The truth is there were serious options for me, but my club acted immediately and in February, as soon as the transfer deadline ended, I signed a new contract with Rangers for four years.

“I’m very satisfied at Rangers. It’s great and I have a wonderful relationship with my manager, teammates, club, and the fans. I enjoy it and I have nothing to complain about.

“Of course, if you play well there are offers and it’s clear that if I wanted to progress to an even higher level I would have to leave sometime, but when that will be, I don’t know.

“But I still think I can progress at Rangers too. I’m not just saying this out of courtesy, but it’s a great club.”

What does this mean for Rangers?

It really is a fantastic update, isn’t it?

Keeping hold of Barisic back in January may well have been the best piece of business we conducted, and tying him down to a four-year deal shortly after was a serious coup for the Gers.

While he may have struggled during his first season in Scotland, Barisic has really kicked things up a notch this term, and in many respects looks like a different player.

So far, he has averaged a higher total action success rate, a 5.1% cross accuracy rate increase, and a higher percentage of ball recoveries in his own half, as per Wyscout.

His performances have been so eye-catching that Andy Walker saw fit to name him the “best left-back in the league” back in December, and with 14 assists so far this season, he has been a key creative force for Gerrard’s men.

With that in mind, it’s a huge relief to hear that he is so content in Glasgow, and here’s hoping that he sticks around for a long time to come.

Barisic has turned himself into a major, major asset.
