‘Hell of a bit of business’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce reacts to reported interest in Rangers 24yo

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that it would be a “hell of a bit of business” for Rangers if they could sell Glen Kamara for a seven-figure fee this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender also heaped praise on the Finland international for his work rate in the centre of the park, claiming that he was always impressed with the 24-year-old during his own spell in Scotland.

According to a report from France Football, Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille are considering a bid of around £8.75 million for the Ibrox regular when the transfer window opens.

Any figure in that region would represent a major profit on the £50,000 Rangers paid to sign Kamara from Dundee in January 2019.

And while Bruce has argued that Steven Gerrard would be reluctant to let the midfielder go, he has also suggested that a fee of that size would represent a good deal for the Gers.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “It’s not a bad return, is it? It would be a hell of a bit of business for the club off the field.

“However, I’m sure Steven will want to keep hold of his best players, and Kamara certainly fits that bill.

“He’s excellent. He carries bags of energy. I was really impressed playing against him.

“They’ve got some really decent players up at Ibrox and he’s one of them. The way he gets about the pitch, he’s a good player, and as I say, I’m sure they’ll want to keep him.”

Kamara still has three years left to run on his current deal at Ibrox, and has featured 39 times for the Gers in all competitions this season.

It’s clear that Gerrard sees him to as an important part of his squad in Glasgow, but as Bruce so rightly points out, it could be very difficult for the board to resist such a handsome bid for him – especially when they paid such a small fee for him in the first place.
