‘Barmy’ – talkSPORT broadcaster reacts as Rangers dossier released

The Rangers dossier was sent to all the other SPFL clubs on Thursday and we’re now waiting to see the reaction.

As expected, the SPFL dismissed it out of hand saying it doesn’t contain any evidence of wrongdoing.

On the White & Sawyer Show (7/5, 11.30am) talkSPORT’s David Tanner said that he’d had a look at the evidence and said the headlines were references to the Dundee vote, reference to poor governance and threats made to member clubs.

He also said there were allegedly £10m of potential liabilities that hadn’t been disclosed to member clubs.

Jim White reacted to the news saying, “Rangers are certainly having a swipe at Neil Doncaster as the evidence becomes more clear.

“It seems to be a sideshow between Rangers and the SPFL. There has been bad blood for some time. Fans in Scotland just want to know when football can come back, behind closed doors, when it’s right.”

His co-host Natalie Sawyer echoed what all Rangers fans have been thinking about the whole debacle.

“This vote to end the season, it might seem barmy if the Premiership follows suit and they look over the border and see games going on there,” Sawyer said.

“Of course Steven Gerrard is going to be looking on and saying, ’If they can do it in Germany and England, why can’t we do it here?'”

It doesn’t take a lot of common sense to come to the conclusion that Sawyer has.

The Bundesliga has officially been given the go-ahead to start again on May 16.

The UK government is going to relax certain lockdown conditions on May 16 and that could lead to the Premier League and possibly even tier-two football starting up again in England.

What was the rush? Why couldn’t the SPFL wait until the situation was a bit clearer?

White is right, this is a sideshow but it’s an important one that has ramifications for the future of the game.

The state of Scottish football and the journalism around it is not in a good state.

You’ve only got to look at Chris Sutton’s reaction to the news today to see that.

He’s a leading BBC and BT Sport journalist and he just dismissed the dossier out of hand.

Things are too partisan in Scotland. It means that issues, that could move the game forward, are dismissed out of hand.

It needs to change. Even if this dossier doesn’t achieve that it has got people talking.

And yes, we do just want the season to continue. And yes, we are aware that will lead to Celtic winning the title.

Everything else, at the moment, is just noise.
