‘Watch this space’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce backs Rangers loanee for greater role in 20/21

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie could be in line for a bigger role with the club next season.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the Gers could be set for a clear out between the sticks to accommodate the 22-year-old stopper.

As per Football Insider, Jak Alnwick has played his last game for the Ibrox club, while current number two Wes Foderingham has also hinted at a potential departure.

And Bruce is convinced that McCrorie is capable of stepping into the void left by those two players once he returns from his loan spell with Livingston.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “If they are trying to tie him down, they’ve got him coming through, and they think highly of him, that would explain why they’re willing to let the other two go.

“We’ll have to wait and see, watch this space with him.

“They definitely need an understudy for [Allan] McGregor because he’s getting to the twilight of his career as well, and it’s such an important position.

“They’ll need to get their house in order between the sticks.”

McCrorie spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Championship side Queen of the South, before being shipped out to Livingston in January.

Since then, he has conceded nine goals in eight top flight matches.
