Report – Rangers agree £20 million boardroom deal
Rangers have agreed a five-year contract with kit manufacturer Castore, according to SportCal.
It is understood that the Gers have finalised a deal worth around £20 million – or £4 million per season.
The news comes after the Glaswegian giants seemingly ended their partnership with Sports Direct over the weekend following a seven year association.
In recent times, the club shop at Ibrox has not stocked Hummel branded products due to its affiliation with Mike Ashley’s business, despite the Danish company being the Gers’ official kit supplier.
Now, however, it is understood that the stadium shop is set for a renovation in the coming months, and it is expected that the club will be selling kits made by Castore when it is reopened after the brand also secured the retail component currently owned by Sports Direct.
The Liverpool-based company describe themselves as a “premium” sportswear brand, and supply kit for former world number tennis icon Andy Murray.
It is understood that both Puma and Macron were also in the running for the deal.
What can we take from this?
Firstly, £20 million is not an insignificant amount of money at all.
£4 million per season will be a nice little boost for the Gers, and the financial side of things is just the beginning.
Castore may not be the biggest brand in the world, but they have a good reputation, with Andy Murray claiming that they are the best he has ever worked with.
It is also understood that they are looking to branch out into football in a much more serious way over the coming years, with ambitions of landing deals with Premier League, La Liga, and Bundesliga sides.
We appear to be their first major foray into the beautiful game, but if things work out as planned, we could be getting in on the ground floor of something very exciting.
Moreover, having the club shop functioning as it is properly intended to will be a nice boost, and should hopefully lay to rest any lingering remnants of Mike Ashley’s disastrous association with the Gers.
All in all, this feels like a great deal.
