Ibrox View: Gutting Wilson transfer update could be major disappointment for Rangers
RANGERS OPINION
Rangers could be set for a major disappointment in the transfer window this summer.
According to sporting director Ross Wilson has claimed that the current Coronavirus pandemic could scupper the club’s plans of landing Ianis Hagi on a permanent deal.
The Gers brought the 21-year-old in on loan from Genk in January, and have an option-to-buy clause written into his contract – believed to be worth around £4.5 million.
As quoted by the Daily Record, he said: “Could the virus impact on our decision to take him [Hagi]? Possibly.
“But I think the bigger picture for us is the uncertainty of when the transfer window will open – and what the landscape will look like.
“Ianis has undoubtedly made a really positive impression on us. We’re in regular contact with him, myself, Steven, Gary McAllister and Michael Beale.
“We were really happy with him and he’ll be on loan to the end of season 19/20, whenever that comes.”
And if the Gers do miss out on Hagi, it would be a real blow.
Former Lazio striker Rolando Bianchi recently claimed that the Romanian is a great talent, while Darren Bent has told Football Insider that staying at Ibrox would be best for both the player and Rangers this summer.
Alan Hutton has called the youngster “special”, and it has been reported in Spain that Real Madrid are keeping tabs on him.
Since arriving at Ibrox he has averaged a 58.1% dribble completion rate – 4% higher than Ryan Kent’s this season – as well as 3.32 accurate crosses per game, as per Wyscout.
That figure is also 0.69 higher than Kent’s this term.
Factor in three goals and two assists in 10 games, and it’s clear that he Hagi has an abundance of talent.
Missing out on that, especially when he is available for such a low price, would be gutting.
