‘Never’ – Scott Brown aims title race jibe at faltering Rangers

Celtic captain Scott Brown has aimed another jibe at Rangers for lagging behind the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership title race.

The Gers are currently 13 points behind their bitter rivals, having previously trailed them by just two points at the beginning of the year.

In recent interview with Sky Sports, the Parkhead skipper claimed that his side were eager to complete the league campaign so that they could extend their lead over the Light Blues at the top of the table.

And he has doubled down on his comments with another pop at the Gers in an interview with PLZ Soccer.

He said: “I think their [Rangers] manager and everyone understood that they were never going to catch us.

“They said it in the press themselves – the only chance they had to win was the Scottish Cup so they pretty much admitted defeat already.

“For us it was all about going to Dubai and understanding that we lost that game to Rangers at the end of December but we had to make sure we put things right and we managed to do that.”

What can we take from this?

As infuriating as it may be, Brown makes a fairly valid point here, even if it’s an uncomfortable one for us to accept.

Going into the winter break, we held an advantage in the title race – albeit a slender one.

Two points behind with a game in hand – for the first time in a long our title hopes rested solely in our hands.

Since then, however, we have unravelled dreadfully, dropping points all over the shop and looking like a different side entirely.

The key difference between us and Celtic? They have kicked on and come back at us with a ferocious run of form that has all but ended our hopes of dethroning them this year.

The only silver lining to Brown’s comments, as we said last time, is that you would hope they will provide plenty of ammunition for the Gers to get their head down and seek revenge next term.
