‘Very, very difficult’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce reacts to latest twist in Rangers SPFL saga
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that Rangers will have a “very difficult” task on their hands if they are to prove their allegations of malpractice against the SPFL.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the Gers have “picked a hell of a fight” by going after the governing body for their handling of the vote on whether or not the Scottish football season should be ended early.
The club have called for an independent investigation into the matter, and have won the right to put the matter to a ballot in May.
But the SPFL have already fired back at the Light Blues, sending a letter to all member clubs stating that an inquiry would come at an “incalculable” cost to the Scottish game.
And Bruce is not surprised to see the association come out swinging.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “When you’re picking a fight with the governing body, it’s going to be very, very difficult to try and win.
“Rangers have obviously got their beliefs on what happened and how things weren’t done properly, but how you would go about winning that would be very, very difficult in my opinion.
“If you don’t know the ins and outs of what’s gone on behind the scenes, it’s very difficult to comment on it fully. We’ll just have to watch this space.
“They’ve got a gripe with something, but they’ve picked a hell of a fight.”
The SPFL have already carried out one investigation into the matter, appointing auditors Deloitte to look into allegations of misconduct.
That examination came back clear, but the Gers have taken exception to the scope of the inquiry, and are demanding a second, independent process.
