‘Something to hide’ – Ally McCoist fires warning at SPFL amid Rangers controversy
Rangers legend Ally McCoist has claimed that the SPFL are acting as if they have “something to hide”.
The governing body are currently embroiled in a heated war of words with the Gers following their poorly handled vote on whether or not the Scottish football season should be brought to an end early.
Since then, the club have requested an independent inquiry be carried out to fully establish whether any kind of malpractice was involved in the process.
The SPFL have responded by sending a letter to all of its member clubs claiming that an investigation would cause “incalculable cost” to the Scottish game.
But McCoist believes an examination must be carried out anyway.
Speaking to The Scottish Sun, he said: “It is nonsense, get the inquiry done and try and get some trust back.
“They need one because the trust has totally gone in the organisation with some of its member clubs. If you don’t have that then you have no chance.
“Rangers are not the only club to be scathing. It isn’t just Rangers against the SPFL, there are a lot of clubs deeply disappointed and deeply concerned about the way it has all been handled. The vote itself was a comedy of errors.
“It should happen because it is as if they have something to hide.”
Is McCoist right about this one?
Yes, absolutely.
It’s a simple logic, but it certainly applies here – if the SPFL have nothing to hide, why are they trying so hard to resist an investigation?
The fact is that even if they haven’t conducted their affairs in an improper manner, they are in real danger of squandering any semblance of integrity left in the Scottish game by preventing it from happening.
Even if it does cost time and money, surely that is a small price to pay for faith the be restored in the governing body.
