‘Nut job’ – Andy Halliday claims ‘exceptional’ Rangers teammate is a ‘bully’
Andy Halliday has heaped praise on Rangers teammate Alfredo Morelos, but has admitted that the Colombian is a “nut job”.
The versatile Ibrox man named his best XI from players he has played alongside during his career, and chose the 23-year-old to lead the line with Kris Boyd.
The 28-year-old also picked Allan McGregor and James Tavernier from the current Gers’ squad for his side.
But Halliday reserved special praise for the South American – despite his erratic ways.
Speaking to The Scottish Sun, he said: “Alfredo is in there for his performances, it’s as simple as that.
“I’ve played with top strikers but I don’t think anyone I’ve played with has been in the form that Alfredo has been.
“He’s been the best player in the league hands down and he’s scored a lot of league goals, but again I think his performances in Europe were exceptional. It’s not easy to lead the line yourself but it’s a lot more difficult in Europe against higher class opposition.
“For somebody his size he just continues to bully defenders. He’s a nut job but there are a few nut jobs in my team actually! But Alfredo is a good lad.”
How good is Morelos?
It’s fair to say that the Colombian hasn’t been his usual self of late, and with just one goal since the midseason winter break he has really tailed off in 2020.
But there is no doubting his quality.
Even taking into consideration his massive dip in form this calendar year, the South American scored more goals than Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard across all competitions, as well as having more shots on target per game, winning a higher percentage of his offensive duels, and managing a higher xG rating, as per Wyscout.
It’s little wonder that Ronald de Boer believes that he can cut it in the Premier League, and with the likes of Leicester City and West Ham chasing him, as per The Sun, he could get that opportunity sooner rather than later.
