Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce reacts to ‘weird’ claim about Rangers big name
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos could score goals for any side in the English Premier League.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the Colombian has enough quality to be an asset for clubs of any level, but argued that a big money move to top side has to be earned.
The 23-year-old was praised by veteran teammate Jermain Defoe recently during an interview with Sky Sports, with the 37-year-old claiming that he has what it takes to cut it in England.
And Bruce is inclined to agree with that argument.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “I think you’ve got to earn the right to play for a top team in the Premier League.
“I think whatever team you go to you will get chances created for you because there’s good players in every single team. Aston Villa are near the bottom of the league – you’re telling me Jack Grealish wouldn’t create opportunities for Morelos.
“I think it’d be a weird comment to suggest otherwise, to be honest.
“I think Morelos would score goals in most teams.”
Morelos has hit 29 goals in all competitions so far this season, but has struggled since the turn of the year, and has struck just once in a Scottish Cup win over Hamilton.
The South American’s last league goal for the Gers came in the 1-0 Boxing Day win over Kilmarnock.
