‘From what I’ve heard…’ – Redknapp makes major claim about Rangers big name
Harry Redknapp has claimed that Rangers striker Jermain Defoe will still be scoring goals when he is 40.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager, who has signed the veteran hitman three times over the course of his career, also heaped praise on the ex-England international for his professionalism and willingness to maintain peak physical fitness.
Defoe will be 38 in October, but signed a permanent deal with the Gers in January that is set to run until 2021.
And Redknapp believes he could keep performing well after that deal expires.
Speaking to The Scottish Sun, he said: “You are a professional footballer, so look after yourself. It’s a short career, make the most of it, be in the best condition you can be.
“Stevie’s got a great pro in Jermain, who does exactly that.
“From what I hear, Jermain’s loving it at Rangers too. I’m sure he’ll still be playing at 40 and scoring goals.
“Will that be at Rangers? Who knows?”
Will Defoe still be scoring goals when he’s 40?
Honestly, you wouldn’t put it past him.
Few figures in the professional game know him as well as Harry Redknapp, and for the ex-Spurs boss to make such a bold and definitive statement, you would assume that there is some truth in it.
He isn’t the only pundit who has heaped praise on the striker recently either.
From Michael Stewart to Kris Commons, he has consistently received positive feedback during his time in Scotland, and he shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
With one goals every 82 minutes this season, he has been on fire, and has even outperformed Alfredo Morelos, who has one strike every 112 minutes.
With that in mind, another couple of years doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch at all.
