‘Crisis’ – Harry Redknapp claims key Rangers man is in ‘desperate’ situation
Harry Redknapp has claimed that Steven Gerrard has “hit a bit of a crisis” in his tenure as Rangers manager.
The Gers find themselves 13 points behind bitter rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race, despite that gap being just two points at the start of the year.
And veteran boss Redknapp has speculated on what might have gone wrong for Gerrard in the months since, citing a potential bust-up during a warm weather training break in Dubai in January.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun, he said: “The first half of this season Rangers were looking very good. I don’t know what happened, if anything, during the winter break in Dubai for things to go so badly.
“But Stevie will have used this time off to analyse absolutely everything. He will have learned a lot. He’ll be desperate to go again.
“He’s hit a bit of a crisis. But he’ll come out of it.
“As a manager you never switch off. It consumes you 24 hours a day and I’m sure Stevie will have had many sleepless nights.”
Is Gerrard facing a crisis?
Crisis is a strong word, but it’s probably true that he is not overly happy with where his Rangers side are currently.
Undoubtedly, this is a team who are making progress.
The Gers have gone from averaging two points per game under him last season to averaging 2.31 under him this term, as per Transfermarkt.
His side are currently sat on 67 points after 29 matches, while it took them 33 to reach 66 last time around.
But the manner in which we have fallen away since the turn of the year is a matter of real concern.
Unless we can find a way of sustaining the kind of form that saw us keep pace with Celtic during the first half of the season, it feels as if 10-in-a-row is very, very likely.
Is Gerrard the man to ensure we can stop that happening? You can’t help feeling that he stands a better chance than most would.
