‘Stop whining’ – Charlie Nicholas slams Rangers in title race attack

Charlie Nicholas has claimed that Rangers want to Scottish Premiership season voided to “camouflage their own failings on the pitch”.

The Gers are currently embroiled in a war of words with the SPFL over the governing body’s handling of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and the vote which led to ending of the campaign in Leagues One, Two, and the Championship.

Ibrox chiefs are now calling for an investigation into the process behind that ballot, and insist they have a dossier of evidence to support their demands, but are unwilling to produce it just yet.

But Nicholas believes that the whole debacle is an attempt to deflect attention away from the Gers’ disappointing efforts in the title race this season.

Writing in a column for the print edition of the Daily Express, as per the Scottish Sun, he said: “Rangers need to stop whining and moaning like a baby. It is time to move on

“Ibrox chairman Douglas Park is pushing for an independent inquiry into how the SPFL handled the lower-league vote, yet they don’t want to share any information they have on why they are questioning it.

“What exactly do they want? They don’t want Celtic winning the title, that much is clear. They want the season declared null and void to camouflage their own failures on the pitch.”

“It no longer seems as if it is about the football.”

Does Nicholas have a point here?

Look, nobody associated with Rangers is naive or blind to the reality of the title situation at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard’s men have been nowhere near good enough over the second half of the season, and even if the campaign were to be concluded as initially planned, the chances of us catching Celtic are slim at best.

But the fact remains that there is still a mathematical chance that we could do it, and to hand a club the title when they have not definitively won it feels wrong.

Moreover, regardless of your thoughts on how or when the season should be brought to an end, there is no getting away from the fact that the SPFL have got things very, very badly wrong.

The vote was handled dreadfully, and there has to be an investigation into what happened for the sake of the integrity of the professional game in Scotland.
