Report – SPFL ‘utterly bemused’ by Rangers demands amid title race controversy

Rangers have won the right to ask for SPFL top brass to be “put on trial” but have left authorities “utterly bemused” by what they are trying to prove, according to the Daily Record

The Gers have demanded an independent investigation into the vote that prematurely ended the Scottish football season for the lower leagues amid the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, and claim to have a dossier of evidence that proves there were elements of malpractice in that process.

Subsequently, the club have been given the right to put the matter to a ballot in a fortnight’s time following a marathon two-hour conference call on Monday.

But Scottish football chiefs have reportedly been left baffled by the motion.

A Hampden source told the Record: “People are genuinely scratching their heads and wondering what on earth Rangers are trying to suggest. It will be fascinating when this evidence is finally produced and placed in the public eye.”

Do the SPFL have right to be “bemused”?

The governing body have certainly got one thing right; this will be a fascinating series of events, however it plays out.

From the Gers’ point of view, the fact that they have been granted a vote on the matter can only be a good thing.

At least this way, you would hope that there will be a proper and transparent process of scrutiny that should get to the bottom of this whole debacle.

The reality is that if the SPFL have nothing to hide, then an investigation would find nothing.

As to whether or not they should be “bemused” by Rangers’ plans, it feels like an odd statement to make.

Anybody with any semblance of rationality would look at what happened a few weeks ago and admit that is was handled dreadfully, and at the very least, a proper examination of the matter will go a long way to restoring some trust in the Scottish game.
