Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce reacts to Rangers update on SPFL battle
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that the ongoing war of words between Rangers and the SPFL reflects badly on Scottish football.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the dispute between the two “doesn’t look good” and must be resolved as soon as possible.
The Gers have raised concerns over the manner in which the governing body handled their vote on whether or not the current campaign should be curtailed early because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
Since then, they have called for an independent investigation into the process, and have been granted the right to put the motion to a ballot in a fortnight’s time.
And Bruce has reiterated just how unseemly the whole debacle has become.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “It doesn’t look good for Scottish football when one of the biggest clubs up there is having a war of words with the league.
“Listen, they’ve got a major gripe with the way things have been handled – they believe that it should have been more organised and what have you.
“We’ll have to watch this space, but as I say, it’s a shame to see Rangers having a battle with a governing body, and it reflects badly on Scottish football in my opinion.”
The Gers could face complications in their call for an independent inquiry, however.
Scottish football have been given a deadline of May 25th by UEFA in their decision on whether or not to call time on the Premiership season – just two weeks after the Gers’ vote is due to be held.
