‘I can say for sure…’ – Agent provides update on chances of Rangers loanee Hagi joining Lazio
There is no truth in reports linking Rangers loanee Ianis Hagi with a summer move to Lazio, according to top Romanian agent Giovani Becali.
The 21-year-old joined the Gers on a temporary deal from Genk in January, and is understood to have a £4.5 million option-to-buy clause written into his contract.
But it has been reported that the Serie A club were willing to battle the Gers for the playmaker, despite Steven Gerrard’s men holding a marked advantage.
But Becali has quashed any links between the youngster and a move to Italy.
As quoted by the Daily Record, he said: “There is absolutely nothing in these stories about Ianis Hagi and Lazio
“And the reason I know this for sure is because I have a very good relationship with the sports director at Lazio and I asked him directly whether they were interested in Ianis.
“I can say for sure Lazio are not interested in signing him.”
What does this mean for Rangers?
It can only be good news, surely.
Of course, no definitive decision has been made on Hagi just yet, and with everything that is going on in the world right now, it could be a little while before one is at all, but signing him feels like a no-brainer.
He may have only played 10 games for the Gers, but there are reports that he is already being eyed up by the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, as per the Scottish Sun.
Even Real Madrid are said to be keen on taking him to the continent, as per Balon.
With all of that interest, the Gers would be well-advised to lock the youngster down to a permanent deal, especially with the asking price so low.
If nothing else, he could turn a tidy profit a year or two down the line.
Hopefully, the chances of completing that deal will be a lot higher now that Lazio are seemingly out of the running.
