Ibrox View: Smug Scott Brown comments must fire Rangers to title revenge

RANGERS OPINION

Nobody could have foreseen Rangers’ season panning out in the manner that it has.

Not only has the Coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc on the professional game and left us all in a state of bemused shock, but the manner in which Steven Gerrard’s men imploded in the Scottish Premiership title race after Christmas was nothing short of bizarre.

After beating Celtic at Parkhead in December, the Gers were just two points behind the champions with a game in hand – now they find themselves 13 points adrift with only a handful of games to play.

And it would appear that our recent nosedive has been very well received by the other half of Glasgow.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Celtic captain Scott Brown revealed that he and his teammates want to complete the season so they can extend their lead over us even further.

He said: “I think for us, we’ve had a fantastic season. We’re sitting 13 points clear with eight games to go so we’re in a privileged position.

“If we get to that Nine in a Row, we’re 13 points clear, we’re in a great position just now. Our goal difference is a lot better as well, it’s plus 25 so we’re sitting in a great position.

“We want the season to finish so we can play out all the games and we can get the trophy and we think that if we continued playing the way we were playing we could extend our lead as well at the top.”

Steven Gerrard cannot allow that kind of comment to stand.

The Hoops should be running scared, desperately trying to fight us off with their title hanging in the balance.

Instead, they’re planning victory parades and printing commemorative t-shirts for 10-in-a-row before this season is even finished.

The Bhoys are convinced that they are miles ahead of everybody else in Scotland. They must be proven wrong.

Comments like Brown’s are perhaps understandable given how poor we have been of late, but Gerrard must use them to stoke a fire in the belly of his players so we can finally topple our bitterest rivals once more.
