‘Embarrassing’ – Kris Boyd slams ex-Rangers player after controversial outburst

Kris Boyd has savaged Joey Barton for his “embarrassing” comments on his time at Rangers in a recent interview.

Speaking to the Football CFB Podcast, the ex-midfielder heavily criticised several players, as well as former Gers manager Mark Warburton, who he worked alongside during his own short-lived spell in Glasgow.

But Boyd has jumped to the defence of his former club, and the Scottish game in general.

Writing in a column for the Scottish Sun, he said: “Barton? He couldn’t get out quickly enough.

“The standard he continues to berate and bemoan was just too high for him. He couldn’t cut it in Scotland and it’s still eating away at him.

“Barton is now a manager [at League One side Fleetwood Town] in his own right. He’s working a division below Warburton.

“Why have a go at him? If you want to be a pundit, be a pundit. If you want to be a coach, be a coach. Barton can’t be both. It’s as petty as it is embarrassing. I would have loved to have played in Warburton’s team.”

Does Boyd have a point here?

Of course he does.

We all know the sort of character Barton is – consistently outspoken and not afraid to upset people.

But sometimes those traits can come across as making noise of making noise’s sake.

In this instance, bearing in mind that he played just eight games for Rangers and left a few months after he signed, perhaps he should have kept his mouth shut.

He contributed very little to the club while he was here, and now that he’s gone, sniping and moaning makes him look more than a little bitter.

Barton should let this one lie, because there is no way he can come out of this looking favourably.
