Will Gerrard stay at Rangers? Ally McCoist & Alan Brazil deliver their verdicts
Both Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist think that Steven Gerrard will stay at Rangers next season.
McCoist added a caveat though to a more long-term relationship, saying that Gerrard had to win something.
Celtic look unbeatable at the top of the Premiership and that’s even if the rest of this season’s fixtures are played out.
If the season can’t be finished, then Celtic will be handed the title by the SPFL.
But Rangers and Gerrard also failed in the domestic cups this season in a campaign when there was real hope for silverware.
Rangers are still in the Europa League, just, but not even the most optimistic Rangers fan thinks that trophy is heading to Ibrox.
Brazil and McCoist talked about the prospect of Gerrard staying on at Ibrox on the Breakfast show on talkSPORT (April 23, 7am).
Brazil went first saying, “I think Steven, unless a massive job turns up, and he isn’t going to get the Liverpool job just yet, will stay at Rangers.”
McCoist replied saying, “Agreed. I echo what you say. In Steven’s point of view, the European run, he’s had some great results. But he has to win something, especially when you’re at Rangers and Celtic, you’re judged on what the opposition does.
“The next step is Rangers definitely need some silverware.”
We’ll make that a clean sweep.
We think that Gerrard will stay and we really hope that he does.
This season hasn’t gone to plan. We thought Rangers would win a cup and we thought the title would go down to the wire.
That looked like being the case when Rangers absolutely dominated Celtic in the Old Firm clash on December 29.
However, the form since the winter break has been abysmal.
That’s something Gerrard needs to get right for next season which will be make or break for him, but we don’t want this to be the end of the Gerrard revolution.
