‘Wasted’ – Exclusive: Alex Bruce claims Foderingham right to want to leave Rangers
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has said that he thinks Wes Foderingham is right to want to move on in the summer when his contract expires.
Talking in the Herald back in January, Foderingham said, “I’ve lost the last two years of my career at Rangers.
“My deal’s up in the summer. I’ve had informal talks with the club but, ultimately, I want to play, so I think we’ll get this window out of the way and see where we are.”
“It’s a difficult one for keepers,” Bruce said exclusively to Ibrox News.
“We’ve seen in the past, you get some who are happy to sit and be number two. You could say that about Sergio Romero at Manchester United.
“If you’re happy just to sit and play second fiddle and you wait for your opportunity and you’ve got that mentality to do that, fair enough.
“Personally, I would prefer a keeper to be knocking the manager’s door down demanding to play and saying that he wants to leave to go and further his career.
“Being a footballer is a short career and I think you should make the most of it. My advice would be to move on, go and play. Sitting on the bench, somebody with Wes’ ability is wasted.”
Foderingham has been a fine servant for rangers and has never done much wrong.
He’s just been really unlucky to play understudy to Allan McGregor who has been in brilliant form despite being 38 years old.
McGregor has another year on his Rangers contract and at 29, Foderingham still has one big contract left in him.
