‘Don’t take a sideways step’ – Exclusive: Bruce delivers warning to Alfredo Morelos

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Talking exclusively to Ibrox News, Alex Bruce has warned Alfredo Morelos against taking a “sideways step”.

He claimed that Alfredo Morelos should be looking to rediscover his form and push for a move to a big club.

He was talking after it was reported that Ligue One side Saint-Etienne are interested in moving for the Rangers striker. [Atena2]

Morelos, who has suffered a big dip in form since Christmas, was previous linked with Atletico Madrid.

“It all depends on the lad, and what tickles him, what gets his juices flowing,” Bruce said.

“If it was me, I’d be looking to challenge myself and play in the best leagues possible, for the best clubs who are interested in me.

“Who knows whether he’s motivated by money, or whatever, we’ll just have to wait and see and watch this space.

“If I was Alfredo Morelos, I’d be just trying to get my head down, and trying to get back to the levels of form that he showed earlier on in the season.

“The second half of the season he’s been poor. He’s not scored anywhere near as many goals as he did before Christmas. He’s a young lad, he’s had a bit of a dip, and if I was him, I’d be concentrating on playing for Rangers, banging the goals in again, and generating interest.

“Don’t just move for moving’s sake. You’re at a really good club. Try and hit your potential, and if the chance is there to move to a good club and further yourself, push to do that. Don’t take a sideways step.”

Morelos scored 12 goals in the Premiership in 2019 but has yet to find the net in 2020.

That’s led to a slump from Rangers who find themselves 13 points behind Celtic with the SPFL now having the power to halt the league and declare Celtic champions.
