Ibrox View: Major commercial update will surely delight curious Rangers fans

If there’s one thing that Rangers pride themselves on, it’s the sense of togetherness the club shares with its ardent fanbase.

The Ibrox faithful are as much an integral part of the set up in Glasgow as the playing and coaching staff, and it’s always nice to see that recognised by those in the boardroom.

The latest example of just how highly the club views us fans is reflected in the decision to ditch Ladbrokes as a sponsorship for next season.

In a statement released by the Gers, as quoted by the Scottish Sun, it is made very clear that the decision to end relations with the betting company comes off the back of a number of enquiries from fans.

The statement reads: “Rangers Football Club contract with Ladbrokes as a provider of in-stadia betting services will come to an end in advance of next Season 2020/2021.

“Director of Commercial & Marketing, James Bisgrove, commented: ‘Following a number of supporter enquiries over the Easter weekend, we can confirm the arrangement with Ladbrokes, who provide betting facilities at Ibrox stadium, will not continue next season.”

Regardless of what you may think of the decision to ditch Ladbrokes – and you would certainly hope that at the very least the board have another sponsor lined up to replace the shortfall in income – this is a perfect example of how influential supporter power can be.

For the club to respond directly to fan feedback like this shows that our voices are being heard, and reiterates that when all is said and done, this is still our club.

In a time of massive uncertainty, both on the field and in the boardroom, that should be a source of some comfort.
