Ibrox View: Nicholas surely dead right with stunning Rangers rant over ‘absolute disaster’

RANGERS OPINION

It says a lot when Charlie Nicholas is jumping into an argument to defend Rangers.

The former Parkhead man is hardly a fan favourite amongst the blue half of Glasgow, and judging by his recent rhetoric surrounding Dave King’s departure from the club, the air of suspicion is very much a mutual one.

But Nicholas has now weighed in on the SPFL’s disastrous handling of Friday’s vote on how the season should be resolved, and he is very much on the side of the Gers.

Understandably, there has been outrage at Ibrox over the fact that Dundee are still yet to cast their vote in the ballot, despite the fact that the SPFL have released every other club’s decision so far.

The Gers have even gone as far as to demand an inquiry into the matter, and Nicholas believes that the call is justified.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “It’s an absolute joke, honestly, it’s a joke.

“The SPFL board is an absolute disaster, the people that surround them with ideas are all self indulgent.

“People this weekend in Scotland have said, ‘Oh, Rangers have been self indulgent, so are Hearts’

“Every team in the country have been self indulgent for themselves for as long as I can remember, from playing right through until now.”

Nicholas is absolutely on the money here.

The fact is that the SPFL have a duty of care to all of the clubs in the Scottish league system, and at the moment, it does not feel as if every team is being treated equally.

Now we are told that there will be emergency talks held to try and find a resolution so that £9 million of finds can be released to the teams who need it most, but the reality is that those talks are only needed because the situation has been handled with such incompetence up until this point.

The Gers have every right to ask for some explanation as to why things have gone so badly wrong, and for the sake of the integrity of Scottish football, other clubs should be asking exactly the same thing.
