Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce reacts to Rangers transfer report on big name talent
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed Rangers will have to expect to take a hit on any transfer fee that they receive for Alfredo Morelos this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that fallout of the Coronavirus pandemic will have a widespread negative effect on transfer dealings.
A report from Football Insider claimed earlier in the week that the Gers are willing to slash their asking price for the Colombian, and no longer expect to receive a club record fee for him.
And Bruce believes that the reduced fee is an unavoidable side-effect of the current crisis.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “It’s not just going to affect football, it’s going to affect every business in the world.
“I think it’s like going be pressing a reset button if you like, and I think the prices of transfer fees and players wages and stuff like that are going to take a hit because of what’s happened.
“Until the economy turns itself around I think we’re going to have to expect a bit of a dint in transfer fees.”
Morelos has scored 29 goals all competitions so far this season, but has struggled for form since Christmas and has hit just one goal in all competitions.
According to Football Insider, Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur were both interested in signing the Colombian in January, with a fee of around £25 million touted.
