‘Take it on the chin’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce reacts to major Rangers financial deal
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has hailed Rangers players for taking a 50% wage deferral in response to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the measure was a necessary evil for the club to avoid financial strife.
The Gers announced on Monday that all playing and coaching staff would be halving their wages so that non-playing staff would not be affected by the ongoing crisis.
And Bruce has praised the squad for putting the needs of the club before themselves.
“I think for the benefit of the club it is,” he told Ibrox News.
“Clubs that aren’t necessarily in the same position as teams in the Premier League, when you have the revenue from TV rights coming, I think for their benefit these things need to be done for them to survive.
“A good gesture, but if it means the club carrying on and not facing the kind of struggles it’s had in the past, it’s something that everyone is going to have to take on the chin and deal with.”
According to a report from The Athletic, James Tavernier, Ryan Jack, Allan McGregor, and Steven Davis were the four players who initiated the decision to implement the deferral.
A further report from Football Insider suggests that the dressing room is unanimously behind the choice.
