‘How can you?’ – Frank McAvennie fires back at ex-Rangers chief over title controversy

Frank McAvennie has fired back at former Rangers chairman Alastair Johnson for his comments on Celtic’s title bid this season.

The remainder of the Scottish Premiership season faces an uncertain future with play currently suspended in an attempt to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus outbreak.

One of the potential resolutions to the unprecedented situation is for the Hoops to be handed the title as league leaders, with a 13 point gap between themselves and the Gers.

rangersJohnson has disputed the validity of such a scenario, claiming that the Bhoys would only have won eight-and-a-half consecutive titles, rather than nine-in-a-row.

But McAvennie has hit back at the ex-Ibrox chief.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, he said: “If he is saying it would only be eight and a half this year, does that mean Celtic would be going for nine and a half next season? That’s still better than nine, isn’t it? It would still be a record.

Does McAvennie have a point?
Not really, no.
You can kind of see the point that the ex-Parkhead man is trying to make, but it’s all little bit redundant,
You can’t have measures in a title race. Somebody has to win, and that means that they have to win it fair and square.
As such, handing Celtic the title while there is still a mathematical chance of Rangers catching them would be entirely unfair, and a blot on the Hoops’ history books, rather than some kind of glorious achievement.
You would like to think that even the most ardent of Celtic fan could see that too, but as McAvennie has proven here, apparently not.
