‘Absolute class’ – These Rangers fans rave about lockdown video of Ibrox ‘hero’

Rangers fans have taken to social media to declare their love for veteran striker Jermain Defoe.

The 37-year-old striker has been a hit since arriving at Ibrox, scoring 25 goals and registering eight assists in 52 appearances for the Gers.

But the former England international has struggled with injuries of late, and hasn’t started a league match for the Gers since January 29th.

And it’s clear that the current lockdown in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic is only making him miss pulling on that famous Light Blue jersey even more.

Defoe took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a video of him running around his back garden with a ball at his feet blasting ‘Simply The Best’.

In the clip, the forward claims that if he can’t be at Ibrox at the moment, he wants to bring Ibrox to him.

And understandably, it has only endeared him to fans even more than before.

It’s not hard to see why Defoe is so well-respected at Ibrox.

Not only is he a model professional with a fantastic temperament and the kind of dedication and commitment to his fitness that has allowed him to play at the highest level well beyond most of his peers, but he has also proven that he can still cut it on the pitch too.

So far this season he has averaged an xG of 0.73, well above his career average of 0.48, as per Wyscout, as well as 1.06 goals per game, over double his career average of 1.06.

There are few poachers who can mix it with the ex-Tottenham Hotspur man, and the fact that he still averaging 7.51 touches in the opposition box, as well as 3.86 shots on goal per game shows that he cannot be left alone for a second.

As a point of reference, Alfredo Morelos has just 7.3 touches per game in the opposition box, as well as a lower xG and goals per game ratio, as per Wyscout.

It’s little wonder Defoe is such a hero in Glasgow, despite only being at the club for a relatively short period of time.

Hopefully he can get back to banging them in at Ibrox in the relatively near future.
