Chris Sutton directs fresh Twitter jibe at Rangers during showdown with world famous superstar
Chris Sutton has taken a swipe at Rangers for their recent lack of silverware in a tweet sent to WWE superstar Drew McIntyre.
The 34-year-old Scot became the first ever British holder of the sports entertainment company’s world championship belt after beating former UFC star Brock Lesnar in a match at Wrestlemania 36 on Sunday night.
McIntyre, a lifelong Rangers fan, had previously suggested cheekily that he would love to go toe-to-toe with renowned Celtic cheerleader Sutton because of the pundit’s outspoken comments on his beloved Light Blues.
And Sutton has bitten back in equally tongue-in-cheek fashion, but not before aiming yet another jibe at Steven Gerrard’s men.
Writing in a post on his personal account in which he shared a tweet from McIntyre, he said: “Well done chubby on this…
“That’s one more title than your football team has won in a considerable amount of time (bar the Petroltank Cup)”
What can we take from this?
Another day, another Sutton jibe aimed at Rangers.
At this stage, they are so frequent and usually so hollow that they have lost any kind of meaningful shock factor.
Of course, the pundit is being lighthearted here, but you can tell that he still takes a certain amount of delight in the fact that the Gers have endured such a barren spell of late.
The fact of the matter is, however, and one that Sutton and most of his Parkhead cronies neglect to consider, is that Celtic’s dominance on the domestic scene has been largely facilitated by the administration that rocked Rangers in 2012.
Without it, the Hoops would not have run roughshod over the entire Premiership as they have done for the best part of a decade, and things would surely look an awful lot different in the upper echelons of the Scottish game.
