Ibrox View: Gerrard must use connections to lure English hotshot to Rangers

RANGERS OPINION

There are few managers in the modern British game who can boast the same quality of connections as Steven Gerrard.

The Ibrox boss has worked with just about any and everybody of any note of the Premier League era, and would surely be able to call on a favour or two in the transfer market with little to no hassle.

In fact, we’ve seen it already during his time in Glasgow, with Gerrard having previously brought in Ryan Kent and Sheyi Ojo from Liverpool to varying degrees of success.

But according to the Daily Record, the ex-Anfield man could be looking to strike again with another inspired loan deal this summer.

A piece from the national outlet suggests that Gerrard could look to pounce on highly-rated striker Rhian Brewster, who is currently on loan at Swansea City.

And what a signing he would be if we can pull it off.

The youngster has a shedload of potential, and has adapted to life at a senior level very impressively.

Since arriving at Swansea he has averaged 2.11 shots on target per game, 8.61 offensive duels won, and 2.93 successful dribbles, as per Wyscout.

What shines through most, however, is his killer instinct.

Take his most recent goal, against Blackburn Rovers, as an example.

Pictured above, notice how early Brewster is willing to strike the ball, catching the keeper off guard with the element of surprise and ultimately reaping the rewards.

That kind of intelligence is the true hallmark of a great striker, and shows that the starlet has a natural knack for reading the game and manipulating the opposition.

Brewster also possesses a real poacher’s instinct too though.

In the image above, taken just before he scored against Preston North End in February, notice how far ahead of his defender he is.

His turn of pace and general reading of the game is so sharp that he gives himself the advantage needed to ultimately afford him a tap in.

Those are skills that are hard to teach, and reiterate just how special this boy can be.

Get him to Ibrox, get him playing in front of a capacity crowd that expect all three points every week, and watch how he and the side flourish.

Make it happen, Stevie.
