‘How?’ – Chris Sutton baffled by latest Rangers report
Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to question how Rangers can hope to sell season tickets for the 2020/21 campaign while so much uncertainty remains over the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
A report from the Daily Record suggested yesterday that the Gers are set to launch a new membership scheme for next term, no clear indication on when the current campaign will be concluded.
And Sutton has taken to social media to register his disbelief at the decision, should it go ahead.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “How can clubs sell season tickets when we don’t know when this season will end and next season will start and the structure of the league?”
Does Sutton have a point here?
It’s difficult to say.
Firstly, it’s important to recognise that this is just a report, and until an official announcement is made from the Gers, we have to treat it for what it is – speculation.
That being said, you can understand why it would be a little bit baffling for the Gers to push ahead with sales for a season that has no definitive start or end date yet.
The reality is, in all likelihood, that the club need the money right now given the lack of gate receipts they will be receiving.
But if that is the case, and if they do decide to open season ticket sales next week, perhaps the best policy would be one of transparency, clearly explaining their reasons for doing so, and hoping that supporters have enough loyalty and trust to support the club through a testing time for everybody involved.
