Ibrox View: Rangers big name surely hits bullseye with barbed social media swipe

RANGERS OPINION

As a Rangers fan, you find yourself spending an awful lot of time discussing Alfredo Morelos.

Whether it be singing his praises for his superhuman goalscoring feats, or acting as an apologist for his fiery temperament, the 23-year-old is never too far away from the centre of a debate.

And a lot of the time it does feel as if the Colombian comes in for more scrutiny than a lot of his peers.

Take, for example, frequent comments from Chris Sutton on the forward’s form and how he conducts himself.

Coupled with alleged racial slurs against him, it’s little wonder that manager Steven Gerrard has expressed his concern that the South American could be driven out of the Scottish game entirely.

It is also probably little wonder then that the striker has decided to hit back.

As per the Scottish Sun, Morelos shared a post to his Instagram story that translated into English as: “The envious one always looks you up and down, looking for some flaw. If he finds it, he comments. If he doesn’t find it, he invents it.”

Now, that could be about anything or anybody, but in the context of what we know about Morelos, and the manner in which his form has dipped since the winter break, it’s hard not to read it as a message to his critics.

And he is more than entitled to make his point too.

Sure, he has only scored one goal since January, but he also scored 28 more before the turn of the year.

In fact, he still has more goals in all competitions than Odsonne Edouard this season, as well as having more shots on target per game, winning a higher percentage of his offensive duels, and managing a higher xG rating, as per Wyscout.

Morelos may not be at his best at the moment, but given everything he has achieved in Scotland, he’s also very entitled to remind everybody of just how good he is when he does hit top form.
