Ex-Ibrox star leaves door open to potential Rangers return

Charlie Adam has not ruled out the possibility of returning to play for Rangers one day.

The 34-year-old left Ibrox back in 2009 after having joined the club from boyhood side Dundee as a youth player.

But it would appear that the midfielder is not dead set against the idea of playing for the Light Blues again before he hangs up his boots.

Writing on an Instagram Q&A, as per the Daily Record, he said:  “It’s easy to say that [he left too soon] now.

“But at the time Rangers had lots of midfielders and spent money on players that were going to play ahead of me.”

Asked whether he would consider returning to Ibrox, Adam wrote: “These decisions are never made by me.”

Would re-signing Adam be a good idea?

Realistically, the Gers probably don’t need any more central midfielders, and when it comes to veteran talent in the centre of the park, Steven Davis has made that role his own.

That being said, could Adam still do a job for the Gers if they were to change their mind and make a move for him? The answer is probably not.

Currently at Reading, Adam has averaged a lower pass completion rate, a lower total action success rate, fewer accurate crosses, and less duels won than Davis this term, as per Wyscout.

In fact, the only area in which Adam has bettered Davis is in his dribble success rate, but even then, you would hardly say that he is a superlative ball carrier.

This one would be nice for sentimental reasons, but other than that, perhaps we should leave well alone.
