‘Bizarre’ – Exclusive: Bruce claims Hartson has got it all wrong over Rangers title claim

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has said that John Hartson is wrong to say that Rangers should concede the title in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the ex-Celtic man wouldn’t be saying the same thing if it were his old club chasing their bitter rivals.

Football is currently suspended in Scotland amid the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic with Celtic 13 points ahead of Rangers, who have a game in hand on their Glasgow neighbours.

Hartson has said that if the season can’t resume, Rangers would win respect in the Scottish game by conceding the title.

But Bruce disagrees.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said, “I bet John wouldn’t say that if the boot was on the other foot, would he?

“Listen, it’s not over until the fat lady sings, so I think you’ve got to play the season out.

“I think it’s inevitable that Celtic will win the league, but until it’s mathematically assured, I don’t think you can just start handing people titles.

“We don’t know how it’s going to work, there are loads of things going around, but it’ll be interesting to see how the powers that be sort this one out because it’s such a bizarre situation.”

As well as having a game in hand, the Gers still have two Old Firms contest with the Hoops.

If Steven Gerrard’s men were to win all three of those matches, the gap at the top of the table would be slashed to just four points.
