‘You know what’ – Jermain Defoe details ‘amazing’ thing Rangers have done for players

Rangers striker Jermain Defoe has said that the club’s regime has been “brilliant” since the training ground was shut down in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The veteran hitman has also claimed the app that is monitoring each player’s individual training sessions is “amazing”.

All football in the UK is currently suspended, and the Gers squad are currently training at home on their own.

Speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT, (Friday 27th March, 10am), Defoe was asked how he was finding the strange situation the players are currently in.

He said: “You know what Jim? You’ve got so much time on your hands, I was thinking… you take it for granted, walking to the training ground, sitting down having breakfast, banter in the dressing room, kissing my mum, my kids… everyone’s missing it.

“But we’re lucky, we have a group chat, we have banter on there.

“The club’s been brilliant too, we’ve got an app and all the players have got individual programs and that goes back to the sports science team.

“Even the boys that have got injuries, they’ve got their individual programs. I’ve got my program on my phone, that tells me when to train, rest days, when I need to eat. It’s amazing.”

What can we take from this?

This is great news and it was brilliant to hear Defoe talk so eloquently and positively about the current situation.

It’s tough on footballers at the moment, training without a set re-start date, but as Defoe pointed out, that’s secondary to what other people are having to go through.

Purely from a football stance, the key to Rangers re-start will be keeping the players as fit as possible and it sounds like the club has got it covered here.

The players are still in contact, too, and it sounds like the squad will be as ready as they can be if and when the season kicks off again.
