‘Wait for the fireworks’ – Exclusive: Bruce issues warning over potential Morelos move
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that Alfredo Morelos would find a move to Atletico Madrid “appealing” but warned about “fireworks” between the Rangers striker and manager Diego Simeone if that happened.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that sparks could fly between the famously fiery pair should they end up in the same dressing room.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Atletico are interested in moving for Morelos, who started the season brilliantly for Rangers.
But Bruce believes that a switch could prove to be a double-edged sword for the player.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “When you get a club like Atletico Madrid wanting you, it’s going to be appealing to most players.
“I think Morelos has had a mixed season really. He started well and he’s done well in European games, but obviously, the last couple of months he’s fallen away a little bit.
“He hasn’t scored as many goals, so he needs to find some form from somewhere, but obviously to get to a club like Atletico Madrid would be appealing to anybody.
“They’re one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Imagine those two together though, Morelos and Diego Simeone – Jesus Christ! Wait for the fireworks.”
Morelos has scored 29 goals this season but has only managed one since the winter break, as Rangers’ title push has fallen away.
If Rangers do cash in – and most supporters know that this will happen at some point – it’s essential that they get as big a price for Morelos as possible.
His form isn’t going to help there but having a club like Atletico interested should keep his stock high.
