Report reveals what will happen to Rangers loanees amid Coronavirus chaos

Rangers players who are out of contract at the end of the season will have to stay at the club until the current campaign is completed, according to a report from The Times

All football in Scotland has been put on hold in the wake of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic in an effort to help arrest the spread of the illness.

But with no end date in sight for the season, it has left many players in limbo, with those whose contracts expire over the summer unsure of where their immediate futures lie.

It is understood, however, that FIFA will impose a rule whereby players will stay at the club they currently represent until the current campaign reaches a conclusion.

The report states that the same will apply to loan players.

As such, full-time talents Jon Flanagan, Andy Halliday, and Wes Foderingham will be staying at Ibrox beyond the official expiration of their contracts, alongside loanees Florian Kamberi, Sheyi Ojo, and Ianis Hagi.

Is this good news for Rangers?

Yes, or at the very least, it’s better than the alternative.

The reality is that Flanagan, Foderingham, and Halliday are all likely to leave the club when the transfer window does open, and they would probably not be missed too much were they to exit before the season resumes.

The same could probably be said of Sheyi Ojo, truth be told, but with regards to Florian Kamberi and Ianis Hagi, Steven Gerrard would surely much rather go into the last leg of the title race with those two players at his disposal.

Of course, this is still only a report, and may never come to fruition, but it would be a logical and simple way to deal with a complex issue.
