Report – Rangers given six-figure financial boost amid Coronavirus pandemic

Rangers have been handed a six-figure financial boost by the SPFL during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, according to the Daily Record.

All football in Scotland has been put on hold as part of the effort to arrest the spread of the virus, meaning that clubs are having to get by without the usual revenue of gate receipts.

That has led to widespread fears over long-term funding, with no concrete answer on when or if the remainder of the current campaign will be played.

But the Gers have been handed a timely boost thanks to league chiefs making good on scheduled payments.

Along with Celtic and Motherwell, Steven Gerrard’s men have been given £375,000 plus VAT, with the rest of the top flight pocketing £175,000 plus VAT.

Further down the divisions, Championship sides will each receive £26,000, League One sides will each receive £2,700, and League Two sides will each be given £1,300.

What does this mean for the Gers?

It can only be good news.

This lockdown is going to hit everybody hard, and it’s highlighting just how fragile the financial situation is for most clubs north of the border.

Without gate receipts, clubs are in turmoil, and it’s why we’re seeing the likes of Hearts ask staff members to take 50% pay cuts to get through this testing time.

As such, every little helps, and having £375,000 in the coffers will go a long way to easing the natural fears that a crisis like this causes.

Still, we have no answer on where this whole thing is headed, or when the season will be concluded, but for the time being at least, the Gers should be okay.
